Chicken nugget tofu is a tasty dish that cleverly combines tofu with flavors and textures reminiscent of classic chicken nuggets. In this culinary creation, tofu takes the lead role and gets a makeover by blending it with various seasonings, herbs, and spices. The goal is to achieve a taste and texture similar to the traditional chicken nuggets we all know and love, offering a delicious and protein-rich alternative. The process involves shaping the tofu mixture into nugget-like forms and then cooking them, usually by steaming and frying until they turn beautifully crispy and golden brown. The end result is a savory and satisfying snack or meal choice that captures the essence of chicken nuggets without using actual chicken. Chicken nugget tofu can be served with dipping sauces, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, or ranch dressing, just like traditional chicken nuggets.

Nugget Batter

  • 300g Chinese tofu, mashed, remove the water
  • 200g minced chicken
  • 150g minced shrimp
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 spring onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fried shallots
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp sago flour

Wet Batter

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp of water

Dry Batter

  • 100g all-purpose flour
  • 150g breadcrumbs



Combine all the ingredients for the nugget batter, EXCEPT the sago flour, and mix them thoroughly.

Step 1 of cooking Tofu Nuggets.

Add the sago flour into the mixture and stir well.

Step 2 of cooking Tofu Nuggets.

Preheat the steamer and prepare a baking pan with size 22x11x5 cm (or similar size), greasing it with oil. Pour the nugget mixture into the pan, ensuring an even distribution as shown in the photo.

Step 3 of cooking Tofu Nuggets.

Once the steamer is heated, place the nugget mixture inside and steam it for approximately 20 minutes. After steaming, remove it from the steamer and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 4 of cooking Tofu Nuggets.

Once the mixture has cooled, it's time to prepare the Wet Batter and Dry Batter (see the recipe). Begin by coating the nuggets in all-purpose flour, then dip them in beaten egg, and finally, coat them with breadcrumbs. Put the coated nuggets in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 5 of cooking Tofu Nuggets.

Take the nuggets out of the refrigerator and heat up the cooking oil. Fry the tofu nuggets until they become crispy and turn golden brown.

Serve the Tofu Nuggets alongside some chili sauce, warm rice, and your favorite side dishes.
