Beef Bowl Gyudon dish can be served with warm rice, eggs, vegetables, and other side dishes. The part of the cow that is used to cook this dish is the short plate (beef plate) or the beef belly. A short plate can also be called brisket, usually, this part is long and usually cut into thin slices. The main ingredients used to make Beef Bowl Gyudon are Japanese soy sauce (shoyu), sweet sake (Japanese mirin), and dashi stock. There are 2 types of dashi stock, the first type is Kombu Dashi which is made from vegan ingredients such as kelp/seaweed, or you can also mix shiitake mushrooms and seaweed. The second type of dashi is the original dashi, which is often used to cook Japanese dishes made from bonito flakes (katsuobushi), dried shrimp, roasted soybeans, etc. If you don't have Japanese soy sauce (shoyu), you can replace the shoyu with regular soy sauce. Likewise, for sweet sake (Japanese mirin), you can replace it with sweet sauce. By combining these 3 main ingredients, you can make Beef Bowl Gyudon at home. Ingredients

  • 250g short plate beef (shabu-shabu beef)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 garlic, thinly sliced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp sweet sauce
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 50 ml water

Complementary

  • Fried/boiled eggs
  • 1 carrot, thinly sliced and boiled
  • Cucumber
  • Chili powder (cajun)

Saute garlic and onions with oil until fragrant.
