Most people know that humans have two kidneys. Our kidneys are responsible for filtering our blood and removing waste products from our bodies. The human body can function with just one kidney, but if both kidneys are removed, the person will need to go on dialysis or receive a kidney transplant in order to survive. Kidneys also play an important role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. Damage to the kidneys can lead to serious health problems, so it's important to keep them healthy by eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise.

What are kidneys, what do they do, and where are the kidneys located? Kidneys are two bean-shaped organs and the location of the kidneys is on either side of the spine just below the ribcage. The primary function of the kidneys is to filter the blood, removing waste products and excess fluid. The kidneys also produce hormones that help regulate blood pressure, red blood cell production, and calcium levels in the body.

The kidneys are made up of thousands of tiny filters called nephrons. Each nephron consists of a glomerulus (a network of small blood vessels) and a renal tubule (a long, coiled tube). Waste products and excess fluid pass through the walls of the glomerulus into the renal tubule, where they are filtered out and removed from the body in urine. Hormones produced by the kidneys play an important role in regulating various body functions.
